Accountant
Raises Money for Local Charity
A director from Cheltenham based Mitchells Chartered
Accountants is preparing to reach an impressive 15
summits in order to raise funds for a newly created
charity.
Jim Glanville, 42, is currently in training for
the 15 Peak Challenge which will take place during
early August in North Wales. The challenge will see
him climb 15 separate 3,000 foot mountains in Snowdonia
in return for sponsorship for the Little Princess
Charity. The Little Princess Charity was set up locally
to help provide hairpieces to children suffering
hair loss to due chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Jim comments: “The 15 Peaks Challenge is a
route of 26 miles from the top of Snowdon to Foel
Fras, including some 15,000 feet of ascent and 15
summits. I have therefore been training hard to prepare
for the challenge and although I am hopeful, there’s
no guarantee I’ll make it due to the shear
scale of the mountains. Imagine how hard it will
be to climb and descend 15 different 3000 feet mountains,
dealing with blisters, 1000 foot shear drops and
not forgetting Snowdonia's notoriously unpredictable
weather.
“I am inviting sponsorship from Mitchells’ clients,
School contacts as well as friends and family and
the local business community. The Little Princess
Charity, which urgently needs funding, was created
after a five year old girl in my daughter’s
school year at Hereford Cathedral Junior School developed
cancer and sadly died. During her treatment, the
fact that there seemed to be no one supplying decent
hairpieces for children receiving cancer treatment,
affected the girl and her family greatly. So after
her death her parents and the school decided to form
the charity. I feel that I would really like to help
the charity, since I too suffered from childhood
cancer but was fortunate enough to survive.”
